COMMERCIAL SCALE ACROSS BORDERS

Jennifer R. White

The strongest commercial decisions are built on trust — with customers, partners, teams, and investors who tell you what is actually happening before the numbers do.

I help companies translate that judgment into the channels, partnerships, and commercial models that make growth repeatable across new markets.

I work with founders, CEOs, and investors navigating moments where the strategy is clear, but the path to execution is not.

ABOUT

Closing the Distance between Capital
and Execution

My interest in how markets work started long before my career did.

It started in a tiny town on the US-Mexico border, where my family worked on a building project when I was in high school. It deepened working in communities across Latin America and sharpened when I arrived in Uganda in 2004 to research microfinance across East Africa. What I kept running into was the same thing: the difference between how a place looks from the outside and how life actually works on the ground.

Over time, I came to see that the same thing happens in business and investing. Capital moves into markets based on models, assumptions, and pattern recognition. But what determines whether a business actually scales is often far less visible — how decisions get made, where execution slows, and what the customer actually needs when she is sitting in front of you.

The strongest commercial decisions I have made have always started by closing that gap — sitting with customers, partners, and operators in their own context, and letting what I learn shape the strategy and the decisions that follow. That work depends on trust. The strongest insights don't sit in reports or dashboards. They come from relationships built on asking informed questions, listening closely, and creating enough trust that people tell you what is actually happening before the numbers do.

From building investment theses for African private equity funds, to designing financing products at the IFC, to building my own company and later leading international commercial growth across multiple markets, the work has always centered on the same question: how do you turn market opportunity into something commercially viable and scalable?

Capital continues to move into emerging and frontier markets because the underlying economics are compelling. But the hard part remains the same: building businesses that can sustain growth once capital meets reality. That is where I do my best work. I work with a small number of companies, funds, and institutions at a time — usually where the gap between capital and execution is the central problem, and where getting it right matters.

If you are working through those questions, I would welcome the conversation. When I am not working, I am usually on a sports field somewhere — most often watching one of my two daughters compete — or exploring a market I have not yet been to.

WHAT I DO

Where I Add the Most Value

01
Market Entry & Commercial Build

For companies entering new markets where the commercial playbook does not yet exist — I work with leadership to understand where demand is strongest, which channels will convert, and how to build the partnerships and commercial systems that make growth sustainable. From U.S. companies expanding internationally to global businesses entering the U.S., I design market-entry strategies grounded in customer behavior, channel economics, and execution realities.

02
Building Repeatable Revenue

For growth-stage companies moving beyond founder-led growth — I design the commercial function, structure channels and partnerships, and build the systems that make revenue repeatable across markets.

03
Where Investment Theses Meet Markets

For investors and funds deploying capital across complex markets — I pressure-test investment theses against operating reality, sharpen LP narratives, and help investors understand not just where growth exists, but what it takes commercially to unlock it.

SELECTED ENGAGEMENTS

Selected Work

Building a global partnerships channel into a scalable growth engine at MPOWER Financing

Joined a Series B U.S. fintech to build and scale its global partnerships channel as the company diversified beyond a successful digital acquisition engine. What began as an early-stage channel became a global commercial growth engine operating across 15+ markets in Africa, Asia, and Latin America — growing partner-driven revenue from under 0.5% to ~20% of company revenue and driving $150M+ in loan originations.

Designing a financing product for smallholder agriculture at the International Finance Corporation

Worked with the IFC to design an innovative financing product connecting irrigation infrastructure to smallholder agriculture. Led market discovery, product design, and the commercial and financial model that aligned farmers, suppliers, financial institutions, and institutional capital around a viable structure at scale.

Building Business Cases from the Customer across Frontier Markets

At Monitor Deloitte, worked across multiple African markets building business cases from the consumer up — fieldwork with customers across income levels, pressure-testing willingness to pay, and understanding how products fit into household economics. Layered that customer reality with operator, investor, and capital structure analysis to identify which models could become commercially viable.

BOOK A CONVERSATION

Navigating market entry, commercial growth, or investment execution across borders?

I work with a small number of organizations at a time. If you are navigating the gap between capital and execution, I would welcome the conversation.
